Progress is greater than progression - what does this even mean? It’s thrown around the rooms of recovery like it’s nothing, but it really is something; something super important. ⁣If you came into your recovery like me, a perfectionist striving for unrealistic ideals and working toward near-impossible goals, it's especially important to grasp this concept. ⁣

Listen up… It’s OK not to be perfect. It really is, I promise. Two years ago, you’d never catch me saying something like this but in my recovery, I’ve learned an invaluable truth: it’s better to be progressing than to be reaching for something that isn’t real. ⁣

It’s more important to grow and to learn and remain open-minded, than it is to metaphorically kill yourself to achieve, achieve, achieve. ⁣It’s more important to remain reachable, to remain teachable, always be willing and strive for an honest life than to be closed off, head down, nose to the grindstone, working to an unachievable end. ⁣

On page 60 of the basic text for Alcoholics Anonymous, it talks about spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.⁣

So basically, when we progress in our recovery, we make the conscious decision to work toward being the best most useful version of ourselves on a daily basis, by remaining open, willing, honest, and teachable. ⁣If you really grab on to the progress > perfection idea, not only will you be less stressed, but you’ll have a lot easier go of it. ⁣

⁣This t-shirt is everything you've dreamed of and more. It feels soft and lightweight, with the right amount of stretch. It's comfortable and flattering for both men and women.
